- On November 22, 2015
On 16 November 2015 Markos Zampoglou of CERTH-ITI and Jochen Spangenberg of Deutsche Welle participated in the Thematic Meeting “Multimedia Truthfulness Verification in Legal Environment and Social Media”, co-located with WIFS 2015, in Rome, Italy.
REVEAL’s Markos Zampoglou of CERTH-ITI and Jochen Spangenberg of Deutsche Welle took to the stage at the thematic meeting “Multimedia Truthfulness Verification in Legal Environment and Social Media”, organised by Mauro Barni (University of Siena), Alessandro Piva (University of Firenze) and Alessia de Rosa (University of Firenze). The event was co-located with WIFS 2015, in Rome, Italy, on 16 November 2015.
Jochen kicked off the Social Media part of the session and talked about the relevance of information circulating in Social Networks for the news business. Especially, he outlined the challenges journalists are confronted with these days when it comes to the verification of information that can be found in social networks. The attacks in Paris that happened just a few days before the event provided yet another (sad) example of the relevance of sourcing, verifying and debunking stories from Social Media.
Following Jochen’s introduction, Markos then outlined specifics when it comes to the verification of images. In particular, he referred to the work done by CERTH-ITI in REVEAL, including research on image analysis and respective image forensics. This included the highlighting of image datasets that are freely available for research purposes.
If you want to access these datasets, have a look at the respective articles we posted previously on the REVEAL website (including links to respective repositories):
