REVEAL @ EBU TV Assembly
On 3 June 2015 Jochen Spangenberg presented REVEAL at the EBU’s 21st TV Assembly. He showcased the project work, and outlined concept and approach to leading figures from the European public service media sphere.
The EBU’s TV Assembly is one of the leading events for European public service media organisations. This year, it was hosted by BBC North in Salford near Manchester, home to around 3,000 BBC staff.
I had been invited to talk about how to be innovative in these challenging times, in which digitisation is changing almost everything, offering new opportunities to media organisations, while also presenting them with numerous challenges. My speech hence dealt with “possible paths to innovative projects, tools and services.”
To illustrate the matter, I used REVEAL and some other DW Innovation research projects to show how EC co-funded research & development projects work, what challenges there are, and how they can benefit the likes of public service media.
The REVEAL work and approach resulted in particular interest from the audience as it deals with a highly pressing issue in newsrooms the world over: the verification of user-generated content, or eyewitness media as it is being called more and more.
So loaded with new contacts and collaboration ideas it can be stated that attending the TV Assembly and presenting REVEAL there was a very worthwhile undertaking.
