Here’s the next article (Vol. 2) in our series about REVEAL results. In what follows NCSR’D-IIT (the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” – Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, Athens) provide information about what they have achieved in the project. The focus of NCSR’D work was on community issues, stylometry and relation extraction.
In the series “REVEAL Results” we provide information about REVEAL outcomes and achievements. To kick off, we list a number of verification tools, technologies and services that were developed by project partner CERTH. You can trial them out yourself and access the code, if available.
The implications of the filter bubble are manifold and people in the field have been talking about the phenomenon for a while. Yet, this is the first time that a broad audience became aware that something unusual is happening. Recent events, such as Brexit and the US elections, indicate that filter bubbles can be particularly worrisome as they amplify misinformation, or what became the latest ‘hot topic’ – the fake news. It is now up to those concerned to decide how to respond. Finding a right solution, however, is not an easy task.
On 7 December 2016, REVEAL was represented at the Monitoring Forum in Munich, Germany, with an information booth. Software AG used the occasion to showcase the enterprise application at this prestigious at social media monitoring and analytics conference. Here, Gabriele Strobel reports about the event and its outcome.
Dealing with and using content residing in social networks for newsgathering, reporting, opinion-forming, or business intelligence, is one thing. Legal aspects and implications are another matter. What is allowed (under which conditions), what isn’t? What are the rules and guidelines? And what is at stake? From 23-24 November 2016 REVEAL participated in the 2016 NEM Summit in Porto, Portugal. We showcased some of the project work at the NEM exhibition and participated in a pitching session in which we presented our research outcomes to potential investors.
REVEAL is pleased to announce that it joined the First Draft News partner network. Together with others in the network we will collaborate on various aspects of social newsgathering, in particular the verification of eyewitness media / user-generated content. We look very much forward to a fruitful cooperation and are excited about this new partnership!
In the week starting 21 November you can meet REVEAL team members at two events: on 22 November, we will be represented at the First Draft News partner network meeting in London. Thereafter, from 23-24 November, we will showcase our work at the NEM Summit in Porto.
